Liturgical Harp
Limited Capacity seats available
You need this ticket from Eventbrite to sign up: Sunday All-Day Intensive: Liturgical Harp.
Within Judeo-Christian worship there is now such a broad spectrum of music: Classical, Hymns, Contemporary Christian, Praise and Worship music, Rock, and many others. Sunday will be a chance to explore different traditions of music within the liturgical setting. The harp is one of the oldest instruments and throughout the Psalms we are told to “Praise the Lord with the harp and the voice of song” (Psalm 98:5). As harpists we will explore this ancient tradition and make it relevant to today’s worship.

The day will begin with a Worship service. Harp ensemble and soloists will be involved as we experience the liturgy and community of worship.

Workshops by Bonnie Mohr will include: The Harp in a Worship Team, Arranging Sacred Music for Harp and Voice.

Joanna Mell will be teaching: The Music is the Message, Music from the Psalms.

Harp ensemble participants may purchase sheet music at the following link:

9:00 Harp Ensemble: set up and final rehearsal

9:45 Introduction to our Liturgical Worship

10:00 Worship Service: During our worship time we will offer praise, thanksgiving, repentance and supplication with the music of the harp and with our voices.  Those wishing to participate in harp ensembles, prayers, and scripture readings, please contact Bonnie Mohr.

11:00-12:00 The Music is the Message: How to put together a medley of hymns and songs to convey a message in music.  How to write an introduction and bridges between songs, how to change meter and key within a medley.

12:00-1:30 Break for Lunch

1:30-2:30 The Harp in a Worship Team: The harp can be used as a ‘heavenly’ addition to a worship team or band.  Get ideas on how to work as a team. Bring your harps!  Other instruments would be welcome too.

2:45-3:45 Music from the Psalms: The harp has an ancient and deep connection to both the recitation and singing of the Psalms.  This connection endures to the present.  In this workshop, we will explore the different ways that the harp can be used to enhance the Psalms in the worship service.  We will hear both traditional and contemporary settings of Psalms that embrace both Jewish and Christian worship expression.

4:00-5:00 Arranging Sacred Music for Harp and Voice: Go beyond the melody and chords, dig deep to create music from your soul.  Incorporate excerpts of your favorite harp music and integrate the beauty into sacred music.  Create your own Psalms of Praise.
