The 2016 International Harp Festival will be held at the beautiful San Damiano Retreat Center in Northern California. We will bring together many of the harp community’s best clinicians and performers. Our mission is to educate and inspire you and to connect you to harpists from around the globe.

The festival will include One Day Intensive workshops as well as numerous 1 - 2 hour workshops. Topics include healing harp, Celtic and world music, liturgical harp, improvisation, and much more.

You will have time throughout the day to shop for harps, music, and accessories, and meet and mingle with other participants, the performers, and facilitators.

Every evening you will enjoy concerts featuring harpists performing The Blues, Straight Ahead Jazz, World Music, Folk and Classical repertoire.

Diana Rowan

An award-winning musical artist currently performing worldwide and recording both solo and in collaboration, Diana Rowan’s playing and compositions have unusual power and beauty derived from her ability to integrate the musical traditions of the many countries in which she has lived and traveled. Her forthcoming album As Above, So Below reflects recent travels throughout Asia, plus Diana’s PhD research in harp composition from ancient times to today.

Born in Ireland and raised the child of an Irish diplomat, Diana has traveled, lived and performed all over the world, including the East Coast, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East. Each country left a strong impression on Diana's music, which interweaves Celtic, Eastern European, Near Eastern and classical arts, spirituality and mythology.

Diana’s 30 year performance career reaches worldwide from the World Harp Congress in Australia, to Washington DC's Smithsonian Institution, to the US Embassy in Vietnam, to Eastern European cathedrals.

She can be heard on many CDs and soundtracks for film and TV, including her three solo albums Panta Rhei, The Bright Knowledge, and the forthcoming As Above, So Below. Diana recently released the first Celtic harp and Persian percussion fusion album with tombak master Pezhham Akhavass, entitled The Sky at Dawn.

Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Diana holds a PhD in Music Theory (world harp composition techniques) from the National Academy of Music in Bulgaria, plus an MM in Piano Performance. Besides teaching to advanced level, Diana presents workshops and lectures worldwide.

Not surprisingly, Diana believes strongly in the healing power of music and plays often in hospitals and healing centers via her company Sage Harpists http://sageharpists.com. She also performs regularly via Bread & Roses for audiences who don't normally experience live music, such as at low-income preschools, assisted living facilities, homeless shelters and prisons.
